By Sharon Lowell Letting go I’d like to throw out the question to us both “what do we needlessly hold on to?” Interesting question, isn’t it? This question seems simple on the surface to answer, but upon investigation into the deepest secret parts of our minds, and that being extremely complex. I desperately hung on to guilt, hurt, rage, disappointment and especially pity for years and years and years. I’d like to explain my own personal reasons for doing this, with the hope that maybe a light will pop on inside your mind, helping you uncover reasons for clinging to your pain. First of all, I felt that the horror of the experiences that led to all my negative torment deserved the reverence of me for ever paying “homage” to my consequential suffering. If I didn’t stroke and nurture the pain that resulted from living through my hell — who would? In my mind, no one else cared! So, I would carry the torch — and live forever in remembrance of my agony I was determined to take care of it. If I just let it all go, it would have been like admitting that what happened to me was okay, it doesn’t matter, no big deal, forget about it!” Well, everything that happened is not okay, and will never be okay! What people did to me does matter, is a big deal — and I certainly won’t ever forget about it! So, with a strong and determined protective, obsessive attitude, I kept all these promises to myself, and I “honored my agony 24/7. Unfortunately, this mindset eventually took on a life of its own. It gained momentum and power, and led me steadily down the path of nothing short of death. All I could see was the dark, critical, vicious side to life. Simple pleasures did not exist for me, and I became intolerably moody and angry. I trusted nothing and no one. My attitude towards everything became more and more sarcastic and miserable. The heaviness took its toll on my mind, body and spirit — until I craved actual physical death. I find this very difficult to write about, and actually become literally heavy in my head, eyes and body when I revisit these thoughts and past lifestyle. The good news is, however, that because of the grace and patience of God, and the tiny spark left with the need to find healing — that healing is what I did ultimately attain. My life changed forever when I finally adopted two very simple, but hard to learn philosophies: Honor the traumatic memories by learning from them, instead of living inside them. I understand completely the need to show respect and reverence for our times of horror, but we can transfer this reverence into knowledge and understanding. The lessons permanently learned from our times of agony will provide potent influence we can apply to future choices that will have to be made. The knowledge and understanding that comes from torment is ultimately a powerful gift that allows us to find maturity, compassion for others, and certain joy in our future. Reassign new positive associations and meaning to your hurtful memories. Almost always, in any bad situation, we can acknowledge the love and caring we put out there to others, which is always precious and of great value in the eyes of the Lord. Even if our love was responded to eventually with hate or betrayal, our love, concern and generosity of spirit needs to be seen as precious wonderful priceless, and worthy of great praise. Honor your goodness in mind body and spirit, and virtue in motive, regardless of how the situation turned out. Own responsibility for the mistakes you made, but feel compassion for yourself, as opposed to self pity. These points, as well as many others which I cover in my audio e-book; A Path To Healing, helped me after a long time of meditation, searching and honest evaluation of all the details surrounding my times of suffering, to find a way back to joy, self understanding, love and humble beautiful new beginnings. Should I withdraw my application or hang on to see what happens? A. Let me share a secret. I love country music especially the classics. And above all, recognize when it’s time to walk away and time to run. I believe that everyone in business should create a goal, “Be able to walk away.” Be able to let go of a customer who’s a pain and a job that’s creating pain. Be able to recognize a business opportunity that’s all wrong for you, to say, “That’s not a good fit.” Feeling bored sounds like a signal to me. If you (or your interviewer) has trouble staying awake, that’s like a red light flashing and a big siren screaming, “Go away!” So…what’s the best way to walk (or run)? 1. Expect your interviewer or client to say, “Thank you! We appreciate your honesty.” They probably won’t add, “Frankly, we agree you’re not a good fit here.” But most likely, that’s exactly what they’re thinking 2. Plan for the unexpected. On very rare occasions, you’ll hear, “Oh no! What can we do to make you change your mind?” or, “We have another option that may interest you.” But don’t count on it. 3. Create a neutral explanation that’s mutually face-saving and final. Good reasons: “We don’t have room to do justice to your project,” or, “I’ve decided to pursue another option that seems to be a better fit for me at this time.” Bad reasons: “The chemistry didn’t seem right,” or, “I don’t see room for my career growth.” Your contact person might be searching for a new job herself and you may be a terrific match for an opportunity in her next position. 4. Recognize that you will (most likely) be burning bridges. Be sure you aren’t acting out of short-term emotion. Wait a few days after the interview (if you have that luxury) and consider talking to a coach, consultant or other trusted sounding board. 5. Revive your networking, sales activity and application process. Often saying “no” will clear the decks for you to clarify what you really want. Some folks believe you’re reflecting abundance and making way for newer, more appropriate opportunities to enter your life. Bottom Line: Being in a position to decline opportunities means you hold a winning hand. You’re well along the road to whatever you define as success and prosperity. You sit down in the seat and maneuver around by kicking your feet with special fins. Your body is normally halfway submerged in the water, but that will depend on what style of float tube you purchase. They come in a wide variety of shapes, colors, materials, and storage capacities for all your gear needs. All you need to do is decide what best suits your needs. Float tubes are extremely portable, and when not inflated they need very little space and will fit in the trunk of a car with ease. A tube can be inflated when you have reached your favorite lake by using a double action hand pump or a small 12 volt cigarette lighter style electric compressor. As they are fairly light in weight they can also be packed in for longer distances, which is good for hiking into the more secluded high mountain lakes. Traditional float tube - Generally round or tear dropped shape, with either a middle or front opening, with this style you sit low into the water with the air chambers surrounding you. The air bladder can be made of rubber or a special plastic, and if you plan on doing a lot of hike in trips the plastic bladder is about half the weight of the rubber bladder. The one drawback with a traditional style float tube is the round shape of the tube, as this provides a lot of water resistance and can be very slow to maneuver, and on a bigger lake this can make for a long tiring day. Pontoon float tube This type has two air chambers or pontoons that sit on the water one on either side of the angler. The advantage of this style is that they are much easier to move while in the water as the pontoons offer much less drag and resistance. The angler also sits up higher in this style of float tube, keeping the angler warmer in cold water and making casting easier. Another advantage is a higher gear carrying capacity than a traditional float tube, all these features make pontoon type float tubes generally more expensive than traditional float tubes and they are usually heavier, which makes them a poor choice to pack in. Since pontoon style float tubes are more maneuverable and will keep you warmer, the average angler will likely be more satisfied with this type of float tube over time.
