Networking - A Key Factor in a Successful Job Search

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

By Russ Kovar In today’s economy, job seekers need an edge beyond their experience, education and specific industry and job-related skills, in order to find and secure a position. Regardless if you are looking for an opportunity as CEO, Vice President, IT Manager or Customer Service Representative, you need effective tools to compete within a market that is job-poor and candidate rich. Hundreds of articles and seminars have been offered describing the value of networking as being the most effective tool for finding your next position. Networking isn’t new, we all network to some extent to find a new doctor, meet new people socially, to expand business contacts and many other aspects of our everyday life. The question is can networking really help you find a job? As a young man just out of the Navy, my experience networking began without really understanding that I had begun to use networking as a tool. In those days, the information technology field was more commonly referred to as data processing, and that was exactly the field I intended to pursue. Based upon a recommendation from my father, I introduced myself to a neighbor who worked for Allstate Insurance Company. I described the type of position I was looking for and my goal of working in data processing. To make a long story short, Mr. Anderson brought home an application the next day. He helped me complete it and made sure that all the t’s were crossed and I’s were dotted. He personally handed my application to the department manager who was in charge of the hiring and he provided a letter of recommendation. Several days later I received a call from Allstate to interview for an entry-level data processing position. I interviewed with the HR manager and department manager I would be working for. I was offered the job on the spot and accepted with little discussion about the details. That night I called Mr. Anderson and thanked him for helping me. I asked him if I could do anything anything at all to show my appreciation. He told me something that to this day I have remembered and have valued throughout my career. He said “Use your business contacts wisely and treat them with respect. “Offer them advice, referrals, articles of interest and information that might be helpful to them personally or to their business.” By doing so you will build and retain life-long viable business contacts.” He also stressed how important it was to give something back and develop a relationship that complemented both yourself and your contact. I didn’t fully understand how important this lesson was at the time, but I later learned how valuable business contacts are and began building my own network. Networking is building contacts that are well connected in the business world, who understand the power of personal referral and who are willing to help and provide additional contacts. Your contacts may be friends, neighbors, local business owners and people you meet everyday. The challenge is to reach people that understand networking and how it works. One of the most common comments you might hear from someone who does not understand networking is “I don’t know anyone who has job openings.” Frequently you will need to educate your contacts about the types of people you want to reach and how these people can help you uncover potential opportunities. Networking is all about meeting people, who know people, and finding that person or persons who has an interest in your skills, background and what you can bring to a company. Many jobs are not publicized or even formally developed. Your background and skills can prompt companies to think harder about filling a hidden job or create a position that requires your expertise. Seeking out individuals who are well connected in the business world, open to talking about themselves, their companies, giving advice and directing you to other business people, are the primary targets for your network. Even though every person you talk to may not be able to help you right away, they may be an excellent contact later on, or they may refer you to well connected business people. Because the hidden job market is where most of the jobs are today, networking will uncover people who have the inside track on either job openings or who know about potential opportunities. If you are networking effectively, you will find opportunities that you otherwise may never have found. Networking will not only help in your job search, but it will add significant value and tools you will use in your everyday life. Do yourself a favor start learning about networking and how you can apply it to your job search, business initiative or unique requirements About the Author: Russ Kovar is also the Moderator for Chicagoland Ecademy Regional Club, an organization of us.ecademy and a member of Linkedin. The Natural Colon Cleanse

Friday, August 10th, 2007

By Michael L. Smith After years of abuse the body can build up many nasty substances along the lining of the intestines. These substances over time become impacted along the lining of the intestines create a broad range of problems. The main problem that can result from an unclean colon is malnutrition. Malnutrition occurs when the body can’t absorb nutrients from food. This is mainly a result of years of unhealthy food choices and poor lifestyle decisions. These poor foods include but are definitely not limited to artificial sweeteners, deeply fried foods, most any kind of flour, all sugars, and bad fats. It’s now said that many people have up to 15 pounds of undigested and impacted fecal matter along the lining of the intestines. As you may or may not know good health starts in the colon and when compromised the result can make you feel terrible. Many people who have serious fatigue have found great relief after cleaning the colon out. To start you must clean up your diet, this is absolutely essential to your colons revitalization. This means eliminating all sugar from your diet. You should also limit your grains intake like bread and wheat products. Grains create a film of mucous inside your body that you truly don’t need while detoxing your colon. Stick to non-starchy vegetables for your carb intake. As you start to add more vegetables to your diet the daily recommended 25-30 grams of fiber will be satisfied. However if you aren’t eating enough vegetables then you may want to take a fiber supplement. When taking a fiber supplement make sure you are drinking at least two full glasses of water with the supplement. Fiber expands in your body so you want to make sure you have enough water in your system to absorb the fiber. Second, add more water to your diet. Water is essential for almost every bodily process and also essential to your colon cleansing efforts. You should drink about half your body weight in ounces of water every day. However, you should definitely listen to your body, if this feels like too much just work up to that amount. Never force your body to do anything, it’s very important if you feel ill or sick halt the cleansing process until you feel well again. Additionally some helpful herbs you can research are psyllium husks, flax seed, slippery elm bark, marshmallow root, alfalfa and peppermint leaf. All of these herbs are usually in a quality colon cleansing kit. If you do choose to go the route of a colon cleansing kit make sure those herbs are included as they will be helpful in repairing the colon. In the end, cleaning up your diet from sugars and processed food will greatly benefit your health. Because prevention is the biggest key to your health and should be your first choice. Six “Sexy Lips” Tips

Friday, August 10th, 2007

By Allison Saunders Full, soft, inviting lips. Want them? We all do, and now we all can have them. Heres the kiss and tell on luscious lips. #1 Hands off. Lets start simple, with a line you may have heard in your youth. Mom always told you and so will we stop biting and licking your lips. It smears your color and irritates your lips. Keep utensils and pens away from your lips. Itll keep your pucker pretty and keep lipstick off your teeth. #2 Hydrate yourself inside and out. Water, water, everywhere. Be sure to drink your share. You know you need to drink at least eight glasses of water a day. Heres another reason to do it. Water is vital to tissue health. #3 Protect your lips from wind and sun damage. Always wear lip balm with a SPF of 15 or higher. Always. And, dont forget your lip balm. It moisturizes your lips and serves as a base for your lip color. Wear it in place of lip color on no make-up days. Worn under your lipstick, itll even help extend the life of your color. #4 Lip liner can be a lifesaver. Lip liner serves two main purposes. It solves size and shape problems. It reins in your color. Thin lips? Following the lip line, outline your natural lip shape slightly beyond the edge of your lip. Thick lips? Lucky you. If you think theyre too thick (is there really such a thing?), try the opposite. Following your lip line, outline your natural lip shape just inside the edge of your lip. Lining your lips helps keep your lip color from seeping out to the skin around your mouth. So, if your lipstick seems to migrate, then lip liner can keep it in place. One caveat to using lip liner: Your lip liner should not actually be visible once your lipstick is applied. So, choose your lip liner carefully. If the world sees an outline around your mouth, youre using the wrong liner. #5 Lip color sends a message. The color you choose says something about how you view yourself and how you want others to view you. What does your favorite lip color say? Pale pink: pretty and sweet. Red: chic or daring. Coral: fiery and adventurous. Brown tones: classic and timeless. In fact, browns are a universally great choice. Every mouth can wear brown. #6 Get glossy. Lip gloss is not just for teens. A little gloss worn on low-key days brightens up your face. Lip gloss applied over your daytime makeup transforms you into a party girl. Lip gloss dotted just in the center of your lips creates a pouty look. Your lips are ready are you? Youve pampered, primed, lined and colored yourself all the way to a perfect pair of lips. Carp - Learn The Facts On This Fish That Can Help You Catch The Trophies

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

By Robert Benjamin One of the most common anglers’ catches is the carp, a freshwater fish of the family Cyprinidae, counting in America with many devoted enthusiasts. The best-known species of carp in North America is the common carp (Cyprinus carpio), although the history of this fish comes from Europe. In the Middle Ages, carp were spread by monks for food throughout the Old Continent; from there this tradition was exported worldwide in the 15th century, although the popularity of carp remained intact until the present. In Europe, carp have been the most popular fish over the last 20 years, becoming a billion-dollar industry within the extremely competitive fishing tackle market. In the United States, it was initially considered just one of the exotic species not native to North America, arriving just by accident. In fact, it is said that actual carp are descended from fish illegally introduced by unauthorized persons. The fact is that before the 20th century native North American fish were viewed as vital natural resources, harvested commercially by the millions of pounds. Harvesting declined stocks of river and lake fishes, the population was expanding, and the U.S. Congress appointed the US Fish Commission to oversee the nation’s fisheries interests, during 1871, beginning the introduction of carp in America. Carp promised a great return in limited waters, and the commission imported 345 carp from German aqua-culturists. Commercial production of carp began in the 1900s, and the decade after the World War II, annual carp catches reached 36 million pounds. Actually, carp production continues but for anglers carp is just a sport fish, not only in the United States, but also in most nations around the world, while many restaurants, hotels and resorts keep serving carp on the menu. However, in a few regions carp are considered a pest that must be killed, whether sport or not, because of their attributes allowing them to be an invasive species on new ecosystems, with serious negative effects for both native fauna and the local ecosystem. Commercially speaking, this was beneficial from the economy point of view. Carp were shipped by rail to markets during many decades serving as an important food source for the growing population, and prestigious restaurants, like the Waldorf and Astoria, popularized dishes such as “Carp in Rhine Wine Sauce”. After the war and with the advent of refrigeration, carp popularity took new highs. Carp are considered signs of good fortune in Asian countries; they are part of the traditional Christmas Eve dishes in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. They are also a competitive prize for international anglers looking for fun trying to catch the biggest because, contrary to other countries, they are not considered to be good for eating in North America. There are a large number of carp types, among the most popular are Carp bream (Abramis brama), Bighead carp (Aristichthys nobilis), Carnatic carp (Barbodes carnaticus), Crucian carp (Carassius carassius), Prussian carp (Carassius gibelio) and the Goldfish (Carassius auratus). There is a website that has great information on most species of freshwater fish. It has details that pertain to each species of fish such as habitat, spawning, eating habits, the best lures and baits and more, the website is called: Fishing Stringer, and can be found at this url: http://www.fishingstringer.com By Robert W. God and the Gays: Make Up Your Mind (Part 6)

Monday, August 6th, 2007

By David Ben-Ariel All these things [trials, temptations, tribulations] are wonderful opportunities to confirm or deny our commitment to Christ. It’s a chance to defy temptation and stand up for what’s right - despite peer pressure (Mat. 10:32-33). We can make things easier or more difficult for ourselves. Either you’re totally convinced God’s way is right and worth living, or you’re not sure and continually ride the fence and risk rupture; tormenting yourself and sending out conflicting signals and confusing signs (Mat. 6:24; 7:16). When you’re at the crossroads it’s either this way or that. You can’t have it both ways (Rev. 3:15). You should’ve made up your mind at baptism. Will you honor your decision or break your vows? For those who’ve chosen to follow the Noble Path, they can’t afford to play with fire, flirt with death, or risk living on the edge (Jude 23; Zech. 3:2). They’ve got to learn to quickly say no to sin. “He who hesitates is lost.” Then they must become “stuck in their ways.” They know that it’s now or never, do or die, and that nothing can compare to what God has in store for them (Heb. 11:25-26; Mat. 13:46). God’s fire will either purify or destroy you. The choice is yours. Will you become a great success or end up a miserable failure (Mal. 3:2)? You might as well lay your lust in the dust, because everything in this world’s about to end and a new world begin; therefore, God expects us to take note and act accordingly (1 John 2:17; 2 Pet. 3:11). Just as God’s got something in store for His saints, He’s also reserved something for sinners (2 Pet. 3:7). Don’t worry, everybody will get what’s coming to them (Rev. 22:12). Using Available Resources Having a clear vision of God’s Kingdom, and a sober view of things to come, we can overcome every obstacle in Christ (John 16:33). But how can we keep our head up when the whole world’s falling down around us (Luke 21:28)? By realizing that we’re that much closer to the time when God will pick up the pieces and start over (John 6:12; Acts 1:6). But how can we keep from “losing it” while we wait (Rev. 3:11)? By getting “baptized!” We’re to be immersed in the Word and saturated by God’s Spirit (Luke 3:16). That’s the only way to be “in Christ.” That’s an atomic statement. It’s not meant to be just an empty spiritual cliche. It’s packed with POWER and ENERGY! Our growth and development depends upon how often (and to what degree) we’ll take advantage of our available resources (Mat. 13:23). Only we can hold ourselves down or back (1 Thes. 5:19). We’re authorized to exercise “veto power” over any illicit thought or action. We’re to wield God’s Spirit (Rom. 8:13), and learn to handle our Light-Saber like an expert (Heb. 4:12; 2 Tim. 2:15). We’re under orders to search and destroy (2 Cor. 13:5; Ga. 5:24), and follow our Leader wherever He might go (Rom. 8:14; 1 Pet. 2:21). Jesus’ flesh and blood are our rations (John 6:47-63). God’s Word can energize us and His Spirit sustain us - but it must become our daily bread. Are we utilizing what we’ve been given, investing our assets wisely, or are we just wasting our “time and money” (Isa. 55:2)? You’ve got to use it or you’ll lose it (Luke 19:11-27)! We’ll really need this celestial assistance to “walk on the waters,” and not let our heart sink within us, if and whenever we hear rude remarks or callous comments by Christians - people we’d hope would understand our predicament and appreciate our efforts (Ps. 41:9). God expects us to go out of our way, to forgive and forget, when we get burnt (Col. 3:13). He doesn’t want us to fall into the trap of bickering back and forth (1 Pet. 3:9). We’re to share scripture, not exchange cutting remarks (1 Cor. 14:26; Ps. 50:20)! As Satan seeks to divide and conquer, may he find unity in diversity instead (1 Cor. 12:12). Since we have such a high calling, let’s not act beneath ourselves. Growing Pains Some Christians don’t know how to deal with homosexuality. It’s all new and frightening to them. That’s understandable. But now they’re under obligation to learn how to handle themselves when confronted with this issue. We’re to be patient with them and pray that they’ll be tolerant of us. We’re not to force-feed them with “everything you never wanted to know about homosexuality!” They might get sick. Everybody grows at their own pace. Some “growing-pains” are to be expected along the way. We should accept and respect these facts of life and avoid sibling rivalry. Meanwhile we can attempt to make the best of a bad situation (Rom. 12:18). Don’t be judgmental, but be careful. Don’t trip someone up or help them fall over their mental block (Rom. 14:13). This is the way of love: don’t hold a grudge! What about AIDS victims? Are they victims or did they knowingly endanger themselves? Should we befriend these social outcasts or leave them to lay in the bed they’ve made? What about compassion? Am I my brother’s keeper? Can’t I cry for the suffering sin causes (Jer. 9:1)? Don’t these “lepers” need love? They’re not necessarily any worse than others (Luke 13:1-5). Time and chance struck them down (Ecc. 9:11). They need our tender-loving prayers and care, not our cold-hearted stares. Besides, if everybody got sick who’s sinned, we’d all be in intensive care! “Except for the grace of God, there go I” had better become our attitude. God showed His love toward us while we were yet sinners (Rom. 5:8). Masturbation: is it right or wrong? It’s the lesser of two evils, but it’s still evil. Didn’t Jesus say that if you’ve lusted after someone you’ve already had “sex” with them? Sex is mental, not just physical. Isn’t masturbation usually accompanied by explicit fantasies? What’s the difference between them and dirty movies or smut magazines? Don’t they all throw fuel on the fire? Doesn’t it entice you to fulfill them? Doesn’t it weaken your will, surrender your resolve, and screw-up your spiritual day? Isn’t lust just like a drug: intoxicating and addictive? There’s no “time-out” for a Christian. Ask God for help in this area and know you’ll receive it. Learn to resist sin, not God. Same Person, Different Perception Homosexuality is here whether we like it or not. I’ve been all around the world and have see that it’s everywhere. We can’t just wish it away because it won’t go. Pretending it doesn’t exist isn’t fooling anyone but yourself. We have to face up to the facts, regardless of how uncomfortable they might make us feel. As stated in the “Family Network” section of “Better Homes and Gardens” (when they published my letter/Nov. ‘92 issue): Perhaps you’re the parent or friend of a lesbian or gay. Don’t faint if you have; just remember that nothing has changed about that person except your perception of him or her. Treat them according to their personality, not their sexuality. Maybe you’d deny that it could ever occur in your family or intrude into your circle of friends. Don’t faint if it does. It’s not the end of the world. The sun will still rise and life will go on. Maybe you’re unsure of your own sexuality. This much is sure: everything that you’ve loved or enjoyed about their friendship or company remains the same. Don’t get upset if they hadn’t told you. Such anger would only warrant their fears of being “found-out.” Maybe they didn’t want to risk losing your friendship. Obviously it means a lot to them. Express your disapproval of their practice, if you must. But reject it - not them. Is that asking too much? Life’s too short to allow misunderstandings to come between us. We’re encouraged to be reasonable; not to engage in emotional debates or heated arguments (Isa. 1:18). Let’s avoid such ringside distractions. Remain cool, calm and collect (2 Tim. 2:23-25). Build bridges, not walls. Make your point and drop it. One Big Happy Family So there, now you have it. What the Bible really says about homosexuality. I guess I’ve done something right since I get complaints from both sides: the Christian and gay communities. It just goes to show you can’t please everybody! Some say I’m too harsh; others say I’m too lenient. May everybody at least glean something. Others are initially discouraged, but then become encouraged to make necessary changes in their lives (2 Chron. 7:8-11). A few might even sniff, “I told you so.” If so, they’ve missed the point. Those prejudiced preachers might deliver the same basic message, but their style and tone of voice isn’t like the Father’s (John 10:1-5). This little booklet’s a “love-letter,” not hate-mail! Not everyone who speaks the truth has the right attitude or motivation. “A truth that’s told with bad intent beats all the lies you can invent.” We’re to help gather, not scatter; to encourage people to come to Christ, not dig in their heels; to make it easier, not more difficult to repent (Acts 16:16-18; Philip. 1:15-18). “Only he deserves his life and freedom who conquer them anew every day” (Goethe). May we grow ever stronger and more deeply appreciate our deliverance, making sure we never take it for granted (Deut. 5:15). Caution can’t be stressed enough. We’ve got to be so careful not to fall back into our old rut, going nowhere (Ga. 5:1). We can’t afford a relapse into sin that would only put us into a tail-spin (John 5:14). We must be recovering homosexuals, getting better and gaining strength (2 Tim. 2:26). It’s a daily struggle If Christ gave it all, His everything for this relationship, can’t we at least sacrifice a little? Is sex really so important or worth dying for? I know it feels good, but it won’t feel too good in the Lake of Fire! May your love for God become greater than your lust for men (Isa. 56:4-5). The Jewish proverb that “all beginnings are hard” is true. But that old saying doesn’t just state a fact, it offers us the hope that things will get better with time. They do. We just have to hang in there. Climb Jacob’s Ladder one rung at a time. Don’t give up on yourself when God hasn’t! I know from personal experience how difficult it can be, but I also know it’s well worth it. I wouldn’t have given up John, my ex-lover, for God if I didn’t believe in what I’ve written! I went through hell, at first, really wondering if there is an afterlife, a resurrection, if Jesus is the Christ, if homosexuality is incompatible with the scriptures; what if I was all wrong, how would I ever find such another lover, etc.? But I have survived - and grown stronger. I don’t take my beliefs for granted, I know they’re true! Old habits and ways of thinking can be replaced. New habits and ways of doing things can become ingrained. The divine nature can begin to replace our human nature, because God can and does heal minds and bodies! He’s familiar with broken hearts and unhappy lives, and can mend them (Mat. 11:28). We can be made whole in Christ. He wants us all to become “One Big Happy Family” - the Kingdom of God. Will the Real Antichrist Please Stand Up?

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

By Christine Bettridge Most of the world believes there is going be some end time battle of Armageddon where the Antichrist will be defeated. I hate to say it but society has been lied to again. Most of the people who are preaching this stuff are preachers who are trying to scare folks to death and the end result is sending in money. Folks feel they should send in more money so these end time doomsayers so they can get the message out to the rest of the world. They are playing on the fears and the goodness of other people. I am here to tell you today that just like there is no boogie man, there is no antichrist. In fact the explanation of the antichrist is a simple one. However there are many antichrists, they are here now and they were around in Christs day. That sentence just made a lot of sense. To find out who these men and women are we need to go to the logical and only source. Most bibles have a concordance at the very back of the book. Look up the word antichrist and see how many scriptures you find. If you havent looked yet would you be surprised to know there are only four verses in the whole entire Bible that mention the antichrist? Well my friends there will be not be one man singled out as the Antichrist, nor one woman. Sorry to burst your bubble but its not one man like Ronald Reagan, or President Bush or even the Catholic Pope like some speculate however there are several antichrists. They were around in the first century and they are still here today and will continue to be here until Christ comes back for the second time. Without even consulting the Bible we can break down word meanings to know what and who the antichrist is. This is the simple I was talking about in the opening paragraph. We all know who Christ is but the two words together anti and then Christ has thrown people off. What does the word actually mean? According to Websters this word anti means opposite in kind, position or action. Opposing or hostile toward. Defending against. This word anti has no different meaning then if you were using it with anti-war or anti-abortion. So to be anti-abortion means to be against abortion. I think you understand now where I am going with this. This being so simple I am sure you are wondering why this hasnt been explained this way before. It actually has been explained this way before but it is not the popular viewpoint. Usually its the things or concepts right in front of the face that we have the hardest time with. To find out what the Bible says about the antichrist please see, I John 1:7; I John 2:18; 22; I John 4:1-6. Are you starting to get the picture here? The antichrist is just someone who opposed Christ. He or she did not acknowledge that Christ came in the flesh. There is not one antichrist there are many. These antichrists deny the father and the son. So plain and so simple. The antichrist is just someone who is against or anti Christ. The books of I and II John is the apostle John were written sometime before his exile to the Isle of Patmos where he wrote the book of Revelation. John is known as and called the apostle of love because his writings always stress the importance of loving one another. John was an elder (i.e. bishop, pastor, shepherd) of the church in Ephesus. He was writing to second and third generation Christians who began to have doubts about Jesus. They wondered whether Jesus was really divine and the son of God. The new Christians did not have the chance to meet Jesus, to spend time with him, to know him, and also to see that he was real, in the flesh. John was an eyewitness of Christ and was able to help them because of this. The antichrists had already been in the church and were former Christians. Rather they claimed to be Christians to their face but when they werent around their true colors revealed who they really were. On the outside they looked and talked the part. It could be easy to deceive some of the new converts. False prophets are popular with the world because they tell people what they want to hear, it was no different in the first century. He is warning them of the last hour. Please note that this in no way infers to the second coming, instead up until the second coming. Christians today are in the last hour along with them. However their problems were their own, even though they still exist today. Johns letters was to assure them that their faith in God is real and that it was real. He was giving them a warning of what to watch for and be careful of the teachings. He told them if they didnt bring the teachings of God, they were not to receive them into their homes. According to the verses that mention the antichrist heres a recap of what they mean. -John reminds them the antichrist is coming and many were already there among them. -They were a part of the group, Christians who left the faith. -Anyone who denied the Father and the Son were considered the antichrist. -There just wasnt one antichrist there were many. -The world listened to the false prophets and antichrist because they told people what they wanted to hear. -They do not speak the truth; they are liars, deceived and led many astray.-Antichrists are false prophets coming in the name of the Lord, but actually never confessing Christ. -Antichrists will not confess that Jesus is from God. -The antichrists do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. -The Christians knew who to believe because the real disciples or Christians would listen to John. So who is the antichrist? When you sum up all of this you can come to the conclusion that the antichrist is simply anyone who opposes Christ. He who is not with me is against me. Matthew 12:30. Do you know anyone who opposes Christ? Anyone who goes too far in the teaching of God’s word does not have God. II John 1:9. This is the deceiver and the antichrist. It may be your neighbor, friends, family or maybe even within your own household. It definitely will be not one man that will be singled out and defeated in the battle of Armageddon. It is plain and simple; he who is not with him is against him. Fantasy and speculation will surely go away when the truth is revealed. If you want to get the word out about the truth I encourage you to do so. I hope that you are beginning to see the picture and the new light has been shed. Would you like to buy some tickets for the battle and see him get his butt kicked? This title fight would bring in a mint however there will be no antichrst defeated in an end time battle of armageddon. Acupuncture and Alternative Treatments for Asthma

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

By Kevin Doherty Asthma affects approximately 20 million Americans every year. Conventional treatment options are limited to steroid inhalers and bronchodilators. While these medications are effective in relieving the symptoms of asthma, the side effects of continuous long-term treatment can be severe. There are numerous natural strategies to consider for chronic asthma that can offer effective treatment without the side effects. The following is a list of nutritional supplements and herbal formulas to consider for asthma: Supplements Quercetin: Recognized as one of the superior flavonoids because of its marked antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Quercetin is known for its ability to stabilize mast cells and help control allergies. If the asthma is directly related to allergic reactions, then quercetin is an excellent supplement to try. Grape Seed extract: A strong antioxidant that is also very good at reducing inflammation and breaking the chronic pattern of allergy-induced asthma. Cod liver oil: High in essential fatty acids, cod liver oil reduces inflammation, promotes healthy circulation, and is generally strengthening for immunity. MSM: MSM is an organic sulfur-containing nutrient, a naturally-occurring compound in the environment and in the human body. Sulfur is necessary for the structure of every cell in the body. Hormones, enzymes, antibodies, and antioxidants all depend on it. Because the body utilizes and expends it on a daily basis, sulfur must be continually replenished for optimal nutrition and health. MSM has anti-inflammatory properties. It boosts immunity and is helpful for allergies. Chinese herbs Ginseng and gecko: A Chinese herbal formula (ren shen ge jie san) that clears heat and phlegm from the lungs and strengthens both lung and spleen Qi Ding chuan tang: The most widely used herbal formula for asthma, ding chuan tang can be applied to all kinds of asthma. In particular, if the asthma is exacerbated by the onset of a cold, this formula works well. Jade Windscreen: A Chinese herbal formula (yu ping feng san) that can be combined with one of the above formulas to add another support in strengthening immunity and boosting lung function. Acupuncture Practiced for over 2,500 years in various cultures throughout Asia, acupuncture has enjoyed a long history of treating internal medical conditions. Acupuncture can be very effective in the treatment of asthma. Acupuncture helps to reduce inflammation and balance the major organs that are contributing to ones symptoms. In Chinese medicine, asthma can be caused by a variety of factors including stress, diet, allergies, candida infection and constitutional weakness. All of these factors are related to different internal organs that are causing the lungs to constrict. Acupuncture theory involves combining the patients symptoms with pulse and tongue diagnosis to get a clear picture of the bodys inner workings. Acupoints are used on the corresponding meridians that will balance any energetic or functional disharmonies. Adjunctive therapies are also very helpful for asthma, such as cupping and gua sha. Diet The main strategy for asthma sufferers is to avoid foods that provoke inflammation in the body. At the top of this list is the whole class of refined sugars and carbohydrates. Any food that converts into sugar very quickly in the body is going to cause inflammation. Many asthma patients report a marked improvement in their symptoms simply by taking this step. In Chinese medicine, the lungs share a close relationship with the large intestine. Intestinal toxicity can cause a whole slew of internal problems, including asthma and allergies. If there is a history of constipation, then a cleansing approach is useful to detoxify the colon, which will indirectly benefit the lungs. A high fiber diet that is rich in fruit and vegetables is the key. Flax seed, prune, pear, ripe banana, and herbs such as rhubarb root are helpful colon cleansers. Deep breathing Anytime the asthma is in remission, I recommend undertaking deep breathing exercises as much as possible. Ujayi breathing in yoga is a very helpful practice for building lung capacity and strength. This is a long, exaggerated breath that is coordinated with each asana (yoga posture). Many of the chest opening asanas are healing for the lungs as well. Pranayama exercises such as the one minute breath and alternate nasal breathing are beneficial, especially is done on a daily basis. The one minute breath involves inhaling as slowly as possible for as long as possible, holding for as long as possible, then exhaling for as long as possible. Try to build up to a full minute of doing this. Alternate nasal breathing involves plugging one nostril, then inhaling deeply through the other, switching sides, then exhaling slowly and fully, inhaling deeply, then switching sides. This can be repeated several times. If your stress level is high, then I recommend learning how to meditate for 15-30 minutes per day. If you need help with this, please click here. Chronic asthma can respond very well to any one of the therapies mentioned above. I have found that combining these therapies offers the most comprehensive approach to rejuvenate the lungs. Benefits of Human Growth Hormone - HGH Enhancing Products

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

By Danna Schneider Human Growth Hormone has often been referred to as the fountain of youth hormone. So, have we stumbled upon the proverbial fountain of youth with these new HGH enhancement supplements that claim to reduce fat, relieve aging symptoms such as wrinkles, increase energy and sex drive, promote sounder and deeper sleep cycles, and rejuvenate the body? Well, there are several faithful users of products in this arena (and I’m one of them) that will swear that since they have started taking HGH enhancing products, theyve experienced a wide range of pleasing and desirable benefits, and its not placebo. If your goal is to proactively slow your bodys aging process and optimize your personal longevity and quality of life, a quality HGH supplement may be just the thing for you. So, lets take a look at what these HGH products propose to do for you, and how they propose to offer such life-changing benefits to anyone who has the inclination to buy such products, and faithfully take the supplement as prescribed. As we age, the amount of HGH secreted by our bodys pituitary gland decreases, resulting in the symptoms of aging you see in your skin (wrinkles, loss of tone and firmness), energy level, libido, hair color (loss of hair color, or graying of hair), weight gain, and muscle to fat ratio. We could go on forever on the symptoms of aging, but well leave it at that for the sake of brevity, and because Im sure you dont have all day! HGH supplements do not contain actual Human Growth Hormone for this you would actually need to go to a doctor who does this type of thing, pay about $10,000 a year, and get injections of real Human Growth Hormone. Rather, most HGH supplement products employ the use of homeopathic medicine and stimulate the pituitary gland into producing more Human Growth Hormone, increasing its levels in the blood (usually a big difference will be noticed within a month to two months time, which allows for the HGH-promoting agents to gain higher levels in the blood and become effective). These HGH stimulating agents are what we call non prescription amino acid secretagogue supplementation. These compounds stimulate the pituitary gland and encourage it to secrete more HGH into the blood stream, hence the anti-aging benefits that are a direct result of increased HGH in the body. Studies have shown that amino acids such as arginine, glutamine and lysine can significantly increase the production of HGH. The tricky part is, many of these amino acid compounds can be destroyed by the digestive acids in the stomach, rendering any HGH enhancing abilities useless. If you are going to consider an HGH supplement in pill form, be sure there is a technology used to coat or protect the amino acids from being destroyed by your stomach acids. Most quality supplements in pill form will indicate that they employ this type of protective technology, just be sure to look for that information. Another popular method of delivery is powder and spray form. Whatever your preference, just make sure you purchase the supplement from a reputable homeopathic and/or herbal company that has a wide range of successful products, plenty of customer testimonials, and a money back or quality guarantee. I can personally testify that I have been using an HGH supplement for about two months, and Im no scientist, but I can definitely tell you, I feel great and I havent gotten sick once since Ive been on it, even with several stomach flu viruses and cold bugs going around the office. Ive also notice that my sleep quality has improved and I wake up feeling more refreshed, my skin seems to be smoother and more toned, my fatty areas and cellulite seem to be improving/diminishing more and more every day, my appetite has decreased, I have more energy and can think more clearly at work without the typical fogginess I used to get halfway through my day, and my eyes are brighter and more full of life. Overall, my quality of life has definitely improved since about a month after I started the supplement. Coincidence? Maybe - but I doubt it. Im what you might call an herbal-product-of-the-moment junkie. Ive experimented with many of the fads of the moment in the herbal and alternative medicine field, and Ive never experienced such noticeable and obvious results as I have with HGH as I have with any of these other products. Try it it may be just what youre looking for to slow the aging process, improve your quality of life overall, and get the youthful edge back.
